Q.LightŪ Acne Care
Acne is a dermatological disease that affects about 40% of the population between the ages of 12 and 30. Apart from the physical aspects it can be very damaging to a young person's self confidence and personal relationships, so an effective treatment can have far reaching benefits.
Q.LightŪ Acne Care is designed for the natural and side effect free treatment of mild and moderate acne using cool blue light in the range 385-500nm. It is suitable for dermatologists and cosmetic treatment centres as well as for self-treatment and after care at home.
Photodynamic treatment for acne
As part of its reproduction and metabolism process, the Propioni Acnes bacterium (P. Acne bacterium) releases a pigment called porphyrin. On absorbing photons of the correct wavelength, porphyrin molecules become chemically activated and transform into a state of aggregation that can result in several formations.
Q.LightŪ Acne Care has been designed to offer the right spectrum and intensity of light to achieve best treatment results.
In doing so free oxygen radicals are released, which destroy the cell membranes of the P. acne bacteria and kill them. The efficacy of this process is determined by the production rate of excited porphyrin molecules, the concentration of porphyrin and the concentration and wavelength of the photons.
Polarised, ultra-violet free light within the spectrum of 385-500nm (blue) is absorbed and activates the porthyrin, as well as regulating talc formation and reducing inflammation. For best results acne requires daily treatment and Q.LightŪ Acne Care is safe and convenient for self-treatment at home.
Typically after a short remission period the acne may return, but at a lower level and further treatment is required. This cycle may repeat more than once as the acne reduces, so sufferers should be prepared to deal with this phenomenon and not give up on treatment.

The treatment regime
Q.LightŪ Acne Care treats mild and moderate cases of Common Acne, Acne Vulgaris, Acne Comedonica, Acne Papulopustulosa and Acne Conglobata and typical treatment sessions are 10-20 minutes each, once daily. The device delivers an effective light intensity over a diameter of 20cm (8 inches) so a single treatment daily is all that is usually required.
Light treatment should always be applied to clean skin as fat particles can scatter and diffuse the light, but after light treatment the cells are better able to absorb creams or moisturisers, so light therapy can be an effective addition to other treatment protocols.

For commercial use the Regular stand is recommended, however most practitioners will prefer to choose a flexible model such as Q.LightŪ Skin Care which allows a wider range of treatments.
